The Skills Fund, delivered by Active Lincolnshire and funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UK SPF) for Southeast Lincolnshire, is helping individuals living or working in East Lindsey, South Holland and Boston to access meaningful learning opportunities that are changing lives.
From individuals taking their first steps towards a career in sport and physical activity, and volunteers who want to increase their knowledge to further support the people they work with, to seasoned professionals wanting to enhance existing coaching expertise — this initiative is equipping people with the skills to promote and deliver physical activity across their communities.
They have announced that they have secured a second round of funding, meaning even more people can now benefit!
The impact of the Skills Fund goes beyond individual development — it’s also strengthening organisations like ours, charitable trusts dedicated to leisure and culture. It’s helping us grow a skilled, confident workforce that can better serve our communities — and it’s creating opportunities for those communities too.

Karen
Karen’s journey began as an Aquacise participant looking for low-impact movement to manage her arthritis. Her enthusiasm and connection with others in the group soon stood out. After speaking with Laura from Active Lincolnshire, she was supported through the Skills Fund to qualify as an instructor.
She now teaches Gentle Aquacise at our Mablethorpe venue, and her classes are a big hit.
“I like helping people that are like me.”
With a focus on fun, movement and accessibility — her sessions are low-impact and welcoming. Many participants look up to her as someone who understands their journey.
Karen is now a role model within the local community, proving that lived experience — paired with support and opportunity — can truly make a difference.
