COVID - Venues

A

Magna Vitae has established high standards of building cleanliness and quality at all venues. Nevertheless, we will be increasing our cleaning regime and will provide all staff with updated training on the continued importance of venue cleanliness, disinfection and sanitisation protocols prior to reopening.

·         We will have an enhanced cleaning regime.

·         We have reviewed the disinfecting and sanitising materials we use to ensure that they are both anti-bacterial and anti-viral agents.

·         Staff will be visibly employed to routinely disinfect and sanitise specific contact/touch points throughout daily operation.

·         There will be numerous sanitising cleaning stations prominently placed throughout our venues. We ask you to use it both before and after each exercise. This will include the wiping down of exercise mats, weight plates, dumbbells and barbells.

·         Hand sanitiser gel will be made readily available which you should regularly use, especially before you touch any equipment.

·         You are requested not to use personal towels.

·         Our operational staff will be social distancing at all times.

A

Please bear in mind that we are taking rigorous precautions in order to protect the wellbeing of our staff and most importantly you.

What does this “phased approach” mean?

Our phased approach to reopening means that we will be introducing a 3-step approach depending on our customers’ type.

Step 1 – Current “live” membership holders

On Saturday 25th July 2020 we will only open to our current live membership holders. This is to honour our members that have stayed with us, shown loyalty and shared continuous support and positivity throughout these difficult times, thank you.

Although this may only be for a very short period of time, we need to ensure that:

  • We can help facilitate the Governments’ “Track and Trace” service and provide details of all venue visitors to Public Health England (PHE) if required;
    ·         We efficiently manage a bookings system for our Fitness Suites and group exercise classes where provided (initially group exercise will be at Meridian Leisure Centre only);
    ·         Staff and members are confident and comfortable moving around the venues in an orderly fashion, following the one-way systems and routinely social distancing.
    ·         You bring your MV Card with you to every visit;
    ·         Everyone follows the new cleaning processes, including the wiping down of fitness equipment both before AND after use and continuing to regularly hand wash and sanitise.

Step 2 – lockdown cancelled memberships and casual “Pay as you Play” customers

Provisionally we are considering Step 2 starting on Monday 8th August 2020. Within this second phase of reopening we will welcome back members that cancelled their membership during the COVID-19 lockdown, other previously cancelled members and casual fitness suite and exercise class customers. For these membership types:

  • Purchase a membership online through our new “Join at Home” portal;
    ·         Once your membership has been activated you can book a 1 hour gym slot through our online booking system;
    ·         Casual users will be able to purchase a 1 hour Fitness Suite session or exercise class space online through the booking system;
    ·         If you need to directly speak to someone at the venue with regards to your membership, please phone the venue on their direct line any payments required will be requested by card only.

Step 3 – New custom and memberships

Provisionally we are considering starting to welcome new custom and memberships from 1st September 2020.

Step 3 forms the final phase of re-opening where we will hopefully start to welcome even more people back through our doors; this is some time away, further details on how we will proceed with this Step, will be shared at a later date. Please keep a watchful eye on our social media channels and website for useful information and operational updates.

Membership payments

Magna Vitae are pleased to announce that all types of fitness direct debit membership payments will be reinstated and collected from 1st September 2020. To confirm, as a gesture of goodwill and to help welcome our members back through our doors there will be no direct debit payments collected for the period 25th July and 31st August 2020. Thank you again to everyone for standing by us in these challenging times, we have really appreciated this.

Current cash memberships paid for in advance will be extended in accordance with the number of days our service was unavailable to you from 21st March to 31st August 2020, depending upon your original expiry date of course.

If members are experiencing individual circumstances that do not fit with the above stated arrangements, we would ask that they contact their membership venue and discuss with a relevant Manager. We will continue to do all we can to help you.

For those wanting to make a return to gymnastics, we know you are eager to do so. Staff coaches are currently considering the Magna Vitae Gymnastics programme and, similar to our Waterwise swimming lessons, we hope to have this activity available again from the beginning of September. Please keep watching this space for more details….hopefully they will follow very shortly.

We will greatly appreciate it if all of our customers could abide by the following rules when visiting our venues:

·         You need to book your gym session before arriving at the venue; if you turn up at the venue without a booking, you will not immediately be allowed access;
·         Bookings can be made up to 3 days in advance via our online booking system; you will receive an email booking confirmation once you have booked a session;
·         Fitness Suite bookings will be limited to 1 hour time slots;
·         You need to arrive in your gym wear ready for your workout as there will not be any changing facilities available;
·         You should bring your own filled water bottle; our water fountains and vending machines will not be in use;
·         Please do not bring your own sports towel for use in the Fitness Suite; we will provide “blue roll” and sanitising wipes as a replacement for your towel.
·         Please arrive at the venue on time.  You will need to wait in your car or queue outside if you arrive early. If you arrive late, you will still be given access for the remainder of your allocated gym session booking.
·         Your MV card will allow you to access the venues in Reception; please remember to hand sanitise at every opportunity!
·         Frequently use the numerous hand sanitiser stations located throughout our venues, especially when entering and exiting rooms.
·         You must wipe all fitness equipment down both before AND after use;
·         Toilets will be available at our venues but use will be limited to one person at one time;
·         Hand washing facilities will also be available in our toilet spaces, paper towels are to be used to dry your hands, please dispose of these in the bins provided.
·         Hand driers and hair driers will not be in use. You should not bring your own hair drier.
·         You must follow the one-way directional signage displayed throughout the venue;
·         In the Fitness Suites, there are now defined limits as to the number of users allowed to train within a set space, e.g. the free weights area. Please remain mindful of this and please allow other users to access this during the booked session.
·         Some equipment has been placed out of use to ensure social distancing is abided by, please do not remove any signage or use these items of equipment;
·         Do not stand and socialise with others in the Fitness area, this will reduce the time you have available to complete your workout, use your booking slot wisely;
·         When your session time has finished, you must promptly leave the venue thus enabling the next session to start on time.

A

Again, this is part of a phased approach depending on demand. Our opening hours will initially be modified.

We will try but we may not get this quite right from the start. Our opening hours may change again over time.

Please keep an eye on our social media channels and the venue pages for these changes.

A

We are planning to introduce a booking system via a new online portal.

Social distancing guidance dictates we do this as our building capacity has been significantly adapted in order to ensure customer and staff safety.

Initially the charity needs to assess member demand & the footfall returning to our venues. We will continue to monitor and review the level of usage.

The more local support we receive the more we will try to deliver in accordance with the latest government COVID-19 guidance.

Bookings can be taken 3 days in advance from 8am each morning.

A

We are currently allowing you to book 3 days in advance. The booking system will open at 8am everyday for you to do this.

A

Government advice is, If you can, you should wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces where social distancing isn’t possible and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet. This is most relevant for short periods indoors in crowded areas. All our kit now faces away from each other and is also 2m distance apart. We will not be stipulating that you need to wear a mask but if you feel more comfortable in doing so that that is absolutely fine.

A

The use of non-sterile gloves has been associated with a significant potential for cross-contamination and transmission of healthcare-associated infections). This is because they are often used when they aren’t needed, put on too early, taken off too late or not changed at critical points. Hand washing and sanitisation is key so we are asking users to not wear gloves whilst in our venue.

A

We have followed all guidance to make sure our centres are safe. The maximum occupancy of each indoor facility will be limited by providing a minimum of 100sqft per person. Reducing capacity in this way whilst sustaining ventilation flows, will increase the typical current 10l/s/p flow rate of ventilation to at least 20l/s/p, as fewer people are being served by the ventilation system.

Ventilation systems will provide 100% fresh air and not recirculate air from one space to another.

A

Everything is still subject to change at this moment in time. The MV charity is endeavouring to keep you as informed as we can.

At present all membership (DD) remains frozen and money is not being taken from your accounts. Annual memberships will be extended by the days the venue has been closed, once you return to use the venue.

We only need you to confirm reactivation of your payments to enable the booking slot system we have developed to function properly at this stage.

We will inform you when we are due to start taking payments again in due course.

There will be a period of grace when you first start back, where no payment is taken at all. This will cover off previous days lost in March when the lockdown started and hopefully a little more to say thank you for coming back so quickly.

The charity is trying to be as reasonable as possible in this regard. We hope that you agree, this has been a difficult time for many.

Please be minded you are all valued customers, you have been a loyal customer as you have not cancelled & we truly respect this. With this in mind, we have worked incredibly hard to get to a position where it is safe to open for staff and our members. At this time, without your continued support the charity would find it very difficult to continue to operate and provide any service, more especially delivering to the quality standard to which you have become accustomed over the years.

Your membership matters to us, hopefully you can see and appreciate the lengths we have gone to, & the measures we have taken, to ensure your safe use when you return.

We have developed an online booking portal, the gym can now be joined via this system and you can also book & cancel group exercise sessions via this system.

We have introduced a variety of virtual offers through TV.FIT for you to use whilst we have been closed so that members can keep their bodies and minds healthy. This offer has been extended and will now continue through until September 20th even when once we have reopened.

Our own experienced and qualified staff have also started using Facebook Live to provide virtual workouts “live” and also as a recorded “back catalogue” in more recent weeks. You can now exercise with us any time & anywhere!!

As a local charity we rely on our community, your buy-in and support, this is so so important to us right now. We appreciate that your health has never been more important!!

A

Yes, you will be able to see all of your bookings and you will receive a confirmation email for each booking you make through our booking portal.

A

At the moment we would like to reduce the amount of touch point available for the virus to spread, therefore all vending machines and water fountains at our venues are out of use.

We will continually assess this going forward and only allow this to change when it is safe to do so.

COVID - Fitness

A

WHO (World Health Organisation) recommend regular physical activity benefits both the body and mind. It can reduce high blood pressure, help manage weight and reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers – all conditions that can increase susceptibility to COVID-19.

Physical activity leads to improvements in immune health and metabolic health, both of which are linked to COVID risk. Furthermore, physical activity is central in weight management and positive changes in body composition, both of which are linked to COVID-19 risk.

A

No, there is the same chance of getting COVID-19 in all areas indoors, the key is keeping social distancing in place, follow cleanliness guidelines and aerosol guidelines.

We have introduced new cleaning and social distancing measures in all of our centres to ensure that our members can work out safely.

A

No, there is no current evidence that the virus can be spread by perspiration (sweat).

This is supported for non-respiratory fluids by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/faq.html however, limited data is available on sweat/perspiration.

A

Combination of instructor led on site, virtual on site, virtual at home TV.FIT, and MV Instructor Facebook “Live”.

Class programme has been modified to accommodate social distancing.

Space is now of a premium as we have needed to move equipment around.

Some classes may also be held outside when the weather permits and is dry. The risk relating to COVID 19 is even less outside.

A
