Most arrive with a goal to feel healthier, to move more freely, to build confidence, or simply to take back control of their wellbeing. Often, they already have the determination, but what they need is the right guidance, structure and support to help them reach their full potential and Martine was one of those people. 

After years of struggling with her weight and health and undergoing life-changing gastric sleeve surgery, Martine knew she wanted more than just weight loss. She wanted strength and she wanted confidence and to also get her life back. When she joined us at Skegness Pool & Fitness Suite, she brought with her a quiet determination and she just needed support to channel it in the right way. 

She began attending Aqua classes, building confidence in the water where movement felt more supported and less intimidating. But she knew she wanted to progress further, which is where our Lifestyle Consultant, Lizi, stepped in. Martine signed-up to our 12-week Fitness Transformation programme, working closely with Lizi to learn how to use the gym equipment safely, build strength progressively and develop a sustainable routine and it is clear the results speak for themselves. 

At the start of her programme, Martine weighed 86kg with a body fat percentage of 44% (38.6kg of fat mass). Her muscle mass sat at 52.3% (45kg), visceral fat at 14, water levels at 39% and a BMI of 36.3. 

After just 12 weeks of consistent effort and structured guidance, Martine reduced her weight to 83.2kg. Her body fat dropped to 42.4% (35.3kg), meaning she lost over 3kg of fat. Crucially, her muscle mass increased to 54.7% (45.5kg), showing that she wasn’t just losing weight, but she was building strength. Her visceral fat reduced from 14 to 13, her hydration levels improved to 40.6% and her BMI decreased to 33.8. 

What makes Martine’s journey even more powerful is where she started. Before joining Magna Vitae, mobility and breathing were significant challenges. At one stage, Martine admitted, before this, I was thinking about getting a walker” to help with getting around. Today, she walks confidently on the treadmill, increases her weights on the leg press (proudly!) and attends the gym three to four times a week. She also enjoys Lizi’s Seated Exercise class. She combines gym sessions, swimming and Aqua workouts, pushing herself because she genuinely enjoys it. “I wake up at five and think, that’s it — get my gear on…It’s my routine now.” 

Lizi’s role throughout the Fitness Transformation was key. Having that dedicated support and someone to adjust her programme, track her progress, build her confidence and keep her accountable helped give Martine the reassurance she needed to fully step onto the gym floor. What once felt intimidating is now routine. What once felt impossible is now empowering.

Beyond the physical changes, there has been a visible shift in Martine herself. “I’m a totally different person. Healthier and happier than ever!” More confident in how she dresses, how she carries herself and how she approaches life. Friends and family have even noticed it and commented, and it has given her a whole new outlook on life. 

She has also found something incredibly important which is community. Through classes and sessions, Martine has met many new people even though when she first attended “I didn’t know anybody”. She even has met a lady that she now calls a good friend, coffees are shared after workouts and they encourage one another. That sense of belonging plays a huge part in making long-term lifestyle changes sustainable. The routine has now become part of her everyday life and she thrives on it. Martine told us, “How lucky am I to live this life? I’m catching up for ten years!”
