Recognising the dedication, professionalism and people behind the whistle
Today, we join organisations around the world in celebrating International Lifeguard Appreciation Day — a time to recognise the lifeguards who help keep our pools, leisure centres, beaches and communities safe every day.
At Magna Vitae, our lifeguards do so much more than just watch the water. From early-morning safety checks and weekly training drills, to responding to emergencies and mentoring others, their dedication is something we’re incredibly proud of.
Pete
With 27 years of service, Pete brings calm, experience and sound advice:
“Stay within your capabilities and don’t give in to peer pressure.”
While he’s only had to perform two rescues in nearly three decades, they were both serious — including saving a small child who flipped upside down in a baby seat.
His presence on poolside is a reassuring constant for staff and swimmers alike.

Anita
Anita made a complete career change to join the leisure industry and hasn’t looked back.
Starting with childhood swimming lessons and survival badges, she’s now a qualified pool lifeguard at Station Leisure & Learning Centre in Mablethorpe.
She’s also branching into swimming teaching and yoga — proving it’s never too late to dive into something new.

Nick
Now serving as Operational Manager, Nick began lifeguarding at 16.
Over the years, he’s responded to everything from cardiac arrests to serious accidents in a sauna.
Today, he uses that real-world experience to support and guide our lifeguard teams, ensuring they’re confident, well-trained, and ready for anything!

Liv
Liv may be new to the lifeguard team, but she’s no stranger to the water.
After 11 years with Louth Swimming Club ‘Dolphins’, including time as a team captain and swim teacher, she’s now qualified as both a lifeguard and Level 1 swimming teacher.
Liv’s journey is a brilliant example of how local clubs and work experience can grow into careers in leisure — and she’s already making a positive impact on poolside.

Training Behind the Scenes
To mark the day, we’re also sharing a behind-the-scenes video from our Mablethorpe site, where Nick leads a practical lifeguard training session. From rescue techniques to pool safety protocols, this video highlights the continuous professional development our teams undertake — because when lifeguards look calm on the surface, it’s due to hours of preparation beneath it.
