This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating a couple who share a commitment to staying active—meet Ron and Jane!
As dedicated members of Magna Vitae, they’ve made fitness a key part of their lives, training at our Louth venue for the past two years. While they don’t necessarily train together, they support each other in their individual goals, making exercise an integral part of their lifestyle!
Where it all began…
Their fitness story began before the pandemic when they initially planned to sign up. However, just as they were ready to get started, the pandemic hit. When restrictions eased, they returned with determination, signing up for our Exercise on Prescription (EOP) programme to take charge of their health.
For Ron, this journey was particularly significant. After undergoing a heart bypass and experiencing complications due to Covid, he was referred to Cardiac Rehab sessions which take place at our venue, who then recommended the EOP programme. Jane, on the other hand, was dealing with high blood pressure and was pre-diabetic. They knew they needed to make changes—and they did just that.

Power in routine…
Despite these challenges, Jane and Ron have always been active. As former athletics coaches during their teaching careers, fitness has always been part of their lives. Jane has embraced the gym, but her real passion is for classes.
“I had never tried Zumba or Latin Fit. I gave it a go. I thought… ‘I’ve got two left feet’ but now I love it… although I’ve still got two left feet…” Jane laughs.
Ron focuses on weights, cardio and stretching within his limits. Together, they train five to six times a week, finding it difficult to stop! Their dedication has brought them joy and incredible results, with both losing around a stone and a half. Jane is now no longer pre-diabetic and Ron’s condition is stable—an achievement they credit to their commitment to exercise.

“Everyone is very friendly”
Ron tells us, “At the end of the day, as you get older, you can either go two ways—don’t do anything and everything starts to fall apart, or, what a lot of people do in here, keep working at it!”
Beyond the gym, their fitness routine is part of a larger, active lifestyle. Having spent years driving HGVs across the continent, they understand the challenges of staying fit. Now, they’ve made exercise an integral part of their day, incorporating walking and bowling into their routine. As members of Louth Bowling Club, they appreciate the convenience of having the leisure centre nearby, as they travel from out of Louth.
“We could do with a gate this side really!” Ron jokes.
What truly makes their fitness journey special is the social aspect. They’ve built friendships, met new people and enjoy the camaraderie of like minded members.
“Everyone is very friendly,” Jane says, highlighting the supportive atmosphere that keeps them coming back. They also make time to unwind, enjoying a well earned coffee at Aquavita after their workouts.

In This Together…
Despite their dedication, they’ve never needed to motivate each other.
Ron jokes, “Yea… she drags me out of bed…But, in truth, we are always together. Where Jane is, I am, where I am, Jane is.”
Even though they follow their own fitness routines, they always arrive together. Perhaps that’s the secret—supporting each other but also allowing independence.
Their message to others looking to start their own fitness journey? They tells us,
“If you only do a little bit, it’s better than nothing. Come along, find someone you can connect with. The staff are as good as gold! There is always someone to help.”
This Valentine’s Day, we celebrate Jane and Ron—not just for their inspiring fitness journey, but for showing us all that love and support are powerful motivators in health and in life.
