After months of teamwork, creativity, and a lot of knitting…We are excited to share the final chapter of our Ageless & Agile knitting project.

The beautifully crafted blanket, made from over 100 individual squares, is now complete – and it has already found a new home, ready to make a real difference. Jean, our talented chief knitter, took all the squares home and worked her magic, knitting them together to create a stunning blanket that is so much more than just a cosy covering.

How it began…

This project started as an idea during one of our Ageless & Agile sessions and quickly grew into a wonderful community effort. From experienced knitters to beginners, everyone came together, sharing skills and creating something special. The project became more than just a fun activity. It gave the group a chance to share skills and stories, learn new techniques, and work together toward a common goal. For some, it was a new hobby; for others, it was an opportunity to pass on their knowledge.

Stitched with care!

Fast forward a few months, and the squares were complete – 100 of them, each unique in colour, design, and pattern. We handed them over to regular participant Jean, who graciously volunteered to assemble them into a blanket. It was no small task, but she embraced it wholeheartedly. When the blanket was finished, the group came together once more to decide where it should go.

Bound for Syria…

Last week, the team proudly donated the blanket to His Church charity in Brookenby, who are preparing a shipment of essential items bound for Syria. They shared with us that the blanket would soon be on its way to a family in need, offering warmth during the cold nights ahead. It’s heartening to know that the time, care, and effort put in by our Ageless & Agile participants will now help provide comfort to those facing such harsh conditions.

Inclusion, Creativity, and Connection…

We’ve already had so much fun with this knitting project that the group is buzzing with ideas for what to do next. Another blanket? Perhaps! We’re always on the lookout for new and meaningful ways to engage with our participants and the wider community, and we can’t wait to see what our talented teams come up with next.

A massive thank you and well done to everyone from our four Ageless & Agile venues who contributed to this project! Each square tells a story of skill, generosity, and community spirit – proving once again how powerful it can be when people come together! From the intricate patterns crafted by our experienced knitters to the enthusiastic efforts of those picking up needles for the first time, this blanket truly represents what Ageless & Agile is all about: inclusion, creativity, and connection.
