Our NPLQ course cost £275pp. Please note, to be considered for the course you will need to have booked and passed a swim test in advance of the course.

Pool Lifeguard Qualification

Starting as a Pool Lifeguard is a great way to get your ‘foot in the door’ in the sport, fitness & leisure industry. From here, you can progress through various roles until you reach management. It is a very rewarding job knowing that you are a LIFESAVER! You will have opportunities to work in a fantastic team environment and learn essential life skills (like basic first aid and CPR) that could make you a hero at work and in everyday life. 

Study with us, and you will learn: 

  • Section 1: The Lifeguard and the Law, Swimming Pool Supervision. 
  • Section 2: Intervention, Rescue and Emergency Action Plans. 
  • Section 3: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid.

Getting Started

If you have read this far, then we know you are interested. How do I get started? 

EASY! Contact us to book your place, and we will give you a quick test to make sure you are fit for the qualification: 

  • Are you at least 16 (by the assessment date)? 
  • Can you either jump OR dive into deep water? 
  • Can you swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds? 
  • Can you swim 100 metres on your front and then 100 metres on your back continuously? 
  • Can you tread water for 30 seconds? 
  • Can you perform a surface dive to the floor of the swimming pool? 
  • Can you climb out of the swimming pool unaided without the use of steps or ladders, and where does the design of the swimming pool permit it?

Yes, attending the 2 day Paediatric First Aid course will give you full certification requirement for all child care jobs.
No, you would just re-take the section that you have failed in the assessment. For example, if you fail the test paper, you would just need to re-sit another paper.

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is a nationally recognised qualification. This course allows you to then Lifeguard in the Leisure industry.

No, all course costs include only 1 free re-assessment which needs to be undertaken within the required time frame. The Trainer Assessor will be able to discuss this with you if applicable.
For National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid courses, they will all include a multiple choice question paper. The 3-day First Aid at Work will include 2 papers (1 taken on the first day and one taken on the 3rd day).
All National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications (NPLQ) and First Aid at Work courses include basic AED (defibrillator) training as part of the main syllabus. Occasionally, we may run courses with a bolt-on AED certificate which will mean it will then be certified as an independent qualification.
Yes, the length of the course is set to ensure you attend the minimum training hours required.
You will need to be 16 years old or above by the assessment date to be able to partake in the courses.
You will need to bring a form of photo identification on the first day of the course (and the last day for your NPLQ assessment day). We advise you bring a notepad and pen and if taking an NPLQ you will need a swim kit everyday which must include shorts and T-shirt to wear in the water.

To book on, you will need to speak to Reception. Payment of the course would be required on booking (unless prior arrangement with the Training Assessor).
For your NPLQ course you will also be required to take a swim test. This would need to be booked in advance of the course starting and with the course trainer. You will be required to swim 2-lengths (50m) in under 60 seconds and swim 100ms on your front, followed by 100ms on your back, continuously. You will also need to tread water for 30 seconds, jump or dive into deep water, be able to reach the bottom of the deepest part of the pool and climb out of the pool unaided. If this is successfully signed off by the course trainer you will then be able to enrol onto the course.
Before you are able to take part in an National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course, you will be required to take a swim test. This would need to be booked in advance of the course starting and with the course trainer. You will be required to swim 2-lengths (50m) in under 60 seconds and swim 100ms on your front, followed by 100ms on your back, continuously. You will also need to tread water for 30 seconds, jump or dive into deep water, be able to reach the bottom of the deepest part of the pool and climb out of the pool unaided. If this is successfully signed off by the course trainer you will then be able to enrol onto the course.
Your NPLQ will be valid for 2 years. Before it expires, you will need to sit another assessment. To do this, you will need to provide a minimum of 20 hours records of certified training within the 2 year period of being qualified.
The NPLQ course is across 6 days (with the external assessment being on the 6th day). The course times are 9am-6pm each day (apart from the assessment day, which may shorter).
The Level 3 in First Aid at Work course is across 3-days.
A Level 3 in Emergency First Aid at Work course is 1-day.

Due to the nature of the course, this would depend on your disability/limitations.
The Training Assessor is able to apply for a Reasonable Adjustment, which allow adaptations to the course assessment. You can read further information about this here.
