Woven Together: Ageless and Agile

/ Health & Fitness

Every week, our community team delivers Ageless & Agile sessions at all four of our Magna Vitae venues. Designed with older individuals in mind (but open to all adults), these gatherings offer a delightful blend of fitness, fun, and camaraderie.

Whether you’re keen on maintaining your fitness levels or seeking a new hobby, our sessions have something for everyone. Activities delivered include local walking routes, sporting memories sessions, walking cricket, a range of seated exercises and a simple ‘cuppa and a chat’. We’re dedicated to providing diverse experiences tailored to our participants’ interests and abilities. The groups have even enjoyed trips out to the Pantomime, at Skegness Embassy Theatre (oh yes, they did!), as well as The Chocolate Drop in Market Rasen, where they enjoyed a tour and some delicious samples!

But that’s not all – the group has embraced trying something new and have also delved into the cosy world of knitting! On one of their Ageless and Agile sessions back in October 2023 during ‘cuppa & chat’ time, they came up with the idea of knitting squares…

Joan and Gwen, who attend the sessions at our venue in Louth, were talking about the knitting projects they had been involved in over the years, which included knitting for premature babies. This led on to a discussion about how all ages are getting involved in knitting – including actress Meryl Streep and diver Tom Daley. Their celebrity statuses have launched knitting into the spotlight and have eradicated the notion that it is a hobby for only older generations to enjoy.

They then decided as a group that it would be a great activity to get everyone across the Ageless and Agile family involved with; from newbies to legendary knitters! So, they set about knitting squares. Not only did it enable individuals to show off their individuality and skills, some people were learning how to knit from scratch! The more experienced knitters showed the rest of the groups how it was done, making meticulously neat squares and marvellous patterns.

Sarah, who assists Marko in delivering the sessions, told us:

“This provided members of the group the opportunity to teach us and share their skills with others. This demonstrated what Ageless and Agile embodies, that age doesn’t matter.”

Across numerous sessions and between all four Ageless & Agile groups, they managed to create an amazing 100 squares! These were then taken home by one of the amazing knitters called Jean, who is now going to be creating a blanket with all 100 squares.

Once the blanket has been constructed, the team have promised us that they will share their finished article and will decide as a group what they will do with their fabulous creation!

We can’t wait to see it!
