Walkathon for G.I.S.T. has been set up by one of our regular customers Isobel, to raise money for a charity which helps those with Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours.
The Walkathon will be held on the astroturf at Station Sports Centre, Mablethorpe on Saturday 17th June 12-2pm.
This Walkathon has been inspired by the Come Walking sessions that Isobel has already put in place at Station Sports Centre.
Come Walking
Come Walking is a low intensity walk and designed to encourage people who are less active and have limited mobility, to start accessing the facilities as a ‘stepping stone’. They can then progress to the gym or group exercise classes in the future.
Walking is great for your health
- Walking lowers cholesterol and controls high blood pressure. It is a great cardio exercise which helps to reduce the risk of heart diseases, strokes and diabetes.
- Walking helps you to lose weight by burning calories. Just add an extra walk a week and watch your weight drop. Additionally, it tones up your muscles, giving you definition in your calves, quads, hamstrings and glutes. Did you know? Power-walking can burn the same amount of calories as jogging.
- Walking gives you more energy. Keep yourself alert by increasing your blood circulation and oxygen supply to your body.
