What is your motivation?

Sue and Glenys started going to the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth over six years ago; they were amongst a group of friends who made a New Year’s resolution to get fitter. Together the friends would enjoy a workout in the gym, a gentle swim, and a catch-up in the café. It sounds lovely!

However, for some group members over the years, life got in the way and New year’s resolution faded. But not for Sue and Glenys. For these ladies, the resolution was real, and six years on, every Thursday, they can be seen side by side in the gym, chatting away.

Having a friend in fitness is important; if you have ever worked out with a friend, you know this to be true, you spur each other on, you pick each other up when your motivation slips, and you commit to one another. If you don’t fancy going, but you’ve made a promise to a friend, what’s the betting you’re going?!

And this is true for Sue and Glenys; they share a fitness goal and egg each other on. Not only that, but their workout time has also become a regular fixture in their social diaries, enabling them to work consistently on their fitness goals.

“It does me good. I can keep an eye on my heart rate, and I don’t have to walk at her speed to be with her. Walking side by side, talking and chatting is really nice.”

However, it’s not all about fitness; it’s about connection and having that time each week to be with friends and have a good old-fashioned natter.
