Join George, Ella and Ronnie as they demonstrate the Water Safety Code.

What is Drowning Prevention Week?

Drowning Prevention Week is a campaign by the Royal Life Saving Society aimed at reducing the number of drowning incidents across the UK and beyond. This week-long event focuses on educating the public about the risks associated with water and providing essential skills and knowledge to stay safe.

Why does it matter?

Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death, particularly among children and young people. Raising awareness and educating the public can significantly reduce these tragic incidents.

Did you know?

  • 307 UK and Irish citizens lose their lives to accidental drowning each year, on average.
  • 49% of drownings occur between May and August.
  • The number of child drowning deaths in England has doubled in the last 4 years.
  • 83% of child drownings in England occurred in the absence of adult supervision.

Drowning is preventable.

By participating in Drowning Prevention Week, you help foster a safer environment for everyone. Together, we can make a substantial impact on our community’s safety.

How You Can Get Involved

You can find lots of posters and information around our venues this week. Why not talk your child through the Water Safety Code? If they can remember it, they can collect a certificate from reception for FREE! We even have our ‘Safe Swimmer Pledge’ which they can relay and receive a certificate and sticker! (Please note: this depends on venue availability)

Your child can also colour in at reception or collect a colouring-in sheet, to learn the Water Safety Code in a fun way!

Most importantly, get your child WaterWise, with our group swimming lessons. You can find out more information here.

Social Media Campaign

Follow us on social media and share our Drowning Prevention Week posts using the hashtag #DrowningPreventionWeek. We will have posts going out throughout the week – so keep your eyes peeled!

Most importantly, share. share, share! We want to make Water Safety information accessible for EVERYONE.
