Magna Vitae are proud to announce Aladdin – a relaxed and signed performance as part of the Pantomime season – the first of its kind for Embassy Theatre.
On Monday 18th December the 1.30pm performance will be specially adapted to be sensitive to and accepting of audience members who may benefit from a more relaxed environment, including (but not limited to) those on the autistic spectrum, anyone with sensory loss and communication disorders or people with learning disabilities.
This performance is designed for groups, individuals and families of any age with the aim of meeting the needs of people who may find it difficult to attend a more traditional performance.
“Last year I took my toddler to see a relaxed performance and found the non-traditional approach less pressured on both her and I. With additional space to move around, the flexibility to space ourselves out, not necessarily sitting side by side with other audience members and no one “ssshhhhiiinnggg” when she became a little noisy made the whole experience less stressful; and this was just my experience! I could immediately see how beneficial this could be, to many families and individuals who may find a traditional Theatre experience a little overwhelming and moreover how our venue could develop this even further in terms of accessibility and inclusion without compromising the magic of the production” Executive Producer Pollyanne Trapmore-Shaw
What is the relaxed show about?
Within our show we aim to minimise loud noises, bright/flashing lights and create an informal atmosphere to allow people who may need to move around, make noise or just take a break. The usual rules of sitting still and being quiet don’t apply.
But – this is not all – Aladdin the Pantomime Spectacular (the relaxed performance) will have further dimensions added with signed interpretation from BSL performer EMMA HRYCAK and audio descriptive narration by the Pantomime Writer/Director GARY STARR and for those who would find a touch-sensory experience beneficial pre-show character familiarisation is also available by prior arrangement.
