Ravinder was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2008. In 2013 she was referred to Meridian Leisure Centre and since then her blood sugars have been under much better control, even allowing her to come off her medication.
“Joining Magna Vitae has made a big difference to me and my life. Once you exercise you release those happy hormones and you see things differently. I just feel so much better, I have a bounce in me and energy to do things.
When you are start off you lack that confidence, but when I met and saw the people here, a lot of them were similar to me. There are so many people from different walks of life, it was completely different to what I expected. I’ve made a really nice group of friends here.”
Ravinder uses the gym and attends several classes including body conditioning, Zumba and Les Mills Bodypump and Bodycombat.
“Classes are fun! You have that social interaction with people. You are all in the same boat. I can’t do the full extent of the classes but I do what I can and nobody cares.”
It also provides a great way of for her to spend time with her family, having got her son a membership and she also encourages her husband to get active, introducing him to walking.
“It has been such a fantastic experience, my only regret is that I didn’t do it earlier… I wish somebody had told me sooner!”
