The SO Festival team have had a busy few months following on from a very successful festival earlier in the year. Not only have Arts Council England and East Lindsey District Council confirmed funding through to 2022, we have also appointed one of Europe’s leading festival directors to steer SO Festival from 2018 onward and are able to confirm our new dates for next year.
New Artistic Director appointed
We are pleased to announce that Jens Frimann Hansen has joined SO Festival as our new Artistic Director. Jens brings with him an impressive portfolio of previous appointments as well as a strong and varied list of contacts within the international and UK festival community, including highly sought-after artists.
Setting out the vision for SO Festival over the coming years, Jens is keen to develop SO Festival – and Skegness – as a stage for the best outdoor artists in the world.
“I am conscious that a lot of artistic work is not designed for places like Skegness; artistically, socially, and site-wise. To improve this, I will introduce an exchange programme with young European artists to work in public spaces throughout Skegness. I am very keen to start conversations with artists and organisations about my vision and ideas”. Jens invites those interested to email him.
SO Festival is moving to September!
In 2018, SO Festival will take place between 31st August – 2nd September inclusive. This move to the first week in September should help more families to stay and enjoy the grand finale shows (which often rely on darkness to have their maximum impact). We hope you will join us in September 2018 for a spectacular festival.
