Welcome to our new virtual reality world!

/ Leisure

Yes, we have the very best international fitness classes for you to enjoy – thanks to state-of-the-art technology, which is being introduced at Meridian Leisure Centre as part of a £30,000 investment being made by Magna Vitae.

And that is not all – we are also putting in a new dedicated spin studio and a new floor into the free weights area in the gym. And to top it all off, that gym floor is getting a complete redecoration.

This is all happening at the end of March, with the new virtual classes up and running at the beginning of April.

So what can you expect from the virtual classes? Well to start with, we want to reassure members who enjoy our instructor-led classes that they are continuing as normal. This is to enhance our current offer, not replace it! The virtual studio will see a life-sized screen beaming in some of the best classes in the world – an instructor will be on hand to start you off and there will always be someone there if needed.

One of the International fitness brands already signed up is Les Mills. At present, Meridian offers Les Mills’ Body Combat, Body Pump and Body Balance classes with instructors. But with virtual sessions, the range is going to be expanded to include Sh’Bam and CX Worx classes. Meridian is also teaming up with experts Sufferfest to offer virtual spin classes, which include races with professional riders – what a great challenge that will be!

Our Sales and Retention Manager Chris Coveley, explains why we are making the changes:
“To match the popularity of our spinning classes, it will be great to have a dedicated area along with a much-improved facility for weight training on the first floor.
“And we are thrilled to be putting in the virtual studio. This is state-of-the-art technology that is a first for Magna Vitae. Of course, we will still be keeping all the fitness classes that people enjoy, but this brings a whole different dimension to what we can offer, in terms of variety,” he added.

Chris will be running member forums for anyone with questions on March 16th at 9am, 10am, 2pm and 5pm and again on March 19th at 11am, noon and 6pm.

Please note, that to accommodate the changes, the Centre’s gym will be closed on Thursday and Friday, March 22 and 23, with daytime Cycle and Body Pump classes cancelled on Tuesday, March 27.

We do apologise for this disruption.
