GREAT street theatre, along with sets by leading DJs and spectacular fireworks will delight crowds at the 2018 switch-on of Mablethorpe’s summer illuminations.
News of music maestro Chad Jackson’s appearance at the event, on Saturday July 28, was revealed earlier this month, as a taster of what was to come – and the full schedule of free family fun has now been announced.
Centred on the resort’s Central Promenade, between 6pm and 10pm Chad will be joined by Antonn Black. One of the hottest DJs in the UK today, Antonn will close the event in style, with the spectacular fireworks as a back drop.
Earlier in the evening, families will be entertained with street art including an appearance by The Gold Man – a comedy statue act, the Rainbow Stilt Walkers – and The Admirable Admirals and The Big Dippers, which are both from Lincolnshire’s acclaimed Rhubarb Theatre.
The illuminations are organised annually by the Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure and Culture with support from East Lindsey District Council, Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council and Coastal Community Challenge (CCC) Big Local.
Main event organiser, Katie-Louise Green, is promising a great evening for all the family. “I always enjoy the atmosphere the illuminations event brings to Mablethorpe, with families chilling on the promenade and children playing and dancing on the beach.
“We know how much our audiences love a variety of music to party away the evening and so we have been inspired to bring two very talented DJ artists to the event. We’ve also got in store some fabulous street theatre acts to add that extra wow factor. The event is completely free and will end with a firework display to mark the start of the summer season and switch on for the illuminations, which will be kept on throughout the season.”
The theme for Mablethorpe Illuminations 2018 is a Neon Beach Party and Magna Vitae is holding a fancy dress competition with prizes for:
- Greatest Youngster Costume Award
- Most Creative Costume Award
- Cool Duo Costume Award
- Best Group Costume Award
To enter, organisers are asking audiences to post photos of themselves at the event on either the Magna Vitae Community Facebook page or Magna Vitae Instagram page with hashtag #MaboBeachParty2018. Voting will close on Friday August 10, and winners announced on Monday August 13.
