Bowlers from across the region converged on Skegness for the 2018 annual summer tournament.
Organised for the third successive year by Magna Vitae’s community arm, the EBF event was held in September at the resort’s North Greens. It is one of three annual competitions organised by us.
Managing the tournament for the first time this September was our Cultural Officer Lindsay Barrett.
“This is my first year here and I love it, everyone has been so friendly, taking time to help me understand the ins and outs of bowling. I can only thank everyone here for all their help and support,” she said.
Lending Lindsay an experienced hand before finally handing over the reins were lifelong bowling enthusiasts Margaret and Richard King.
At 81-years-of-age, Margaret has been involved with the organisation of the event for decades.
“Bowls means everything to me, and I love coming to these tournaments,” said Margaret.
The couple retired from officially organising the Skegness tournaments when they turned 80 and now volunteer their time to assist Magna Vitae in putting on these events.
Meanwhile, regular bowler and President of the town’s Suncastle Bowls Club Allen Bell was a competitor at the tournament and encouraged people to take up the sport.
The former semi-professional footballer, Allen turned to bowls following injury and, at 66, he continues to enjoy the competitive sport.
“It would be great to see younger people enjoying bowls, and we would encourage anyone to give it a try,” said Allen.
