EBA Skegness Bowls Competition – July 2021

Sunday 4th July 2021 will be remembered by many Bowls players and spectators for the return of the EBA Skegness Bowls Competition, after an enforced year off and as always it included five categories – Ladies Singles, Ladies Pairs, Gents Singles, Gents Pairs and Mixed Pairs.

Players travelled from all over the East of England with many being new to the competition that included the usual regulars, some of whom had amassed multiple ‘Jolly Fishermen’ (Trophies) from years of taking part.

The competition started under bright sunshine on the Sunday morning and ran daily through to the Semi-Finals and Finals which took place on the Thursday and the Friday.

The Skegness weather was not always kind to the players and spectators though as we were hit with numerous heavy thunderstorms during the week, but despite this, many players chose to play on as these thunderstorms were soon followed by hot sunshine (warm really) and the need to reach for the sun cream!

During this week, we had the pleasure of seeing Ladies Pair of Mrs Petney and Mrs Taylor complete a hot shot, which is when a competitive pair, triple or four achieve the maximum score on one end. We also had many players reach multiple semi-finals and finals across different categories with Mrs Tyers and Mr Lewis being the pick.

Finals Day arrived with the 5 finals taking place witnessed by the Mayor of Skegness Trevor Burnham who had come along to support the day and present the Winners and Runners-Up with their cheques and mementos, which was followed by some drinks and snacks at The Suncastle after a long hard week.

The Winners & Runners-Up were:

Ladies Pairs Winners: Mrs Adams & Mrs Walker

Ladies Pairs Runners-Up: Mrs Petney & Mrs Taylor

Gents Pairs Winners: Mr Robinson & Mr Scotney

Gents Pairs Runners-Up: Mr Adams & Mr Jackman

Ladies Singles Winner: Mrs Tyers

Ladies Singles Runner-Up: Mrs Philpot

Gents Singles Winner: Mr Lewis

Gents Singles Runner-Up: Mr Turton

Mixed Pairs Winners: Mr & Mrs Tyers

Mixed Pairs Runners-Up: Mr Lewis & Mrs Coulson

Thank you to everyone who took part and those who supported the competition with special thanks to East Lindsey Council and Keith Fox who helped to make sure the event ran smoothly.
