A team from Magna Vitae travelled down to Ramsgate last weekend to deliver Play at the Seaside, a beach cricket event run in partnership with the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board).
The challenge was simple: to encourage people from all walks of life to try cricket in a fun, family-friendly environment.
Over the course of the day, over 400 people are known to have taken part in cricket-related activities and games on Ramsgate beach.
Families, friends and even a school group from Spain had fantastic fun with the 1000mph challenge, where participants were challenged to throw the ball as fast as they could past a speed counter.
Using games such as a cricket shy, tin-can alley and face-in-the-wall helped to develop vital skills such as throwing the ball accurately, and proved very popular with families!
Competitions were held throughout the day with prizes ranging from a free ice-cream to a family cricket set. One lucky child who won a cricket set was so pleased with his prize that he ordered his dad to take him to the park to play cricket everyday of the holidays.
For the more discerning cricketer, games of cricket were played on the sand throughout the day. We were thrilled to see so many different people getting involved in all these different aspects of the sport, and the atmosphere amongst participants was one of good old-fashioned family fun.
