New project on the horizon to improve Mental Health

/ Health & Fitness

We are delighted to announce a new creative group support project which aims to improve mental health for individuals in Louth, Skegness and the surrounding villages.

The project, which will be named “Unordinary Ensemble” has come into being following a successful one-year funding bid through the Mental Health Promotion Fund and Lincolnshire Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust.

“Unordinary Ensemble” will see people come together to take part in a series of drama, music and dance based activities. Sessions will take place in Louth and Skegness, and will be broken down into 12 week blocks, ending in a community celebration or performance.

Tracey Wilkinson, Lifestyle Partnership Leader for Magna Vitae, said “I am extremely proud for the company to be successful in receiving this support from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We are very aware that mental health is just as important as physical health. By combining physical activity with the engagement of the creative spirit and making artistic activities more widely available to the area is an effective way of addressing some of the big issues of the local area – such as health inequalities, obesity, mental health, and inactivity.”

“Unordinary Ensemble” will be delivered by Lizzie Atkin and Katie-Louise Green. Both Lizzie and Katie-Louise have a strong passion for the arts and are pleased to be joining forces to create a place where adults of all ages, living with mental health illnesses can join sessions to escape and have fun.

Lizzie said “there is evidence that dance, drama and music intervention work can improve the well-being of adults living with diagnosed conditions such as mental illness, dementia or Parkinson’s disease so we are really excited to be working on this project. The project is in early stages and can be shaped to suit the individuals we work with. There is great scope to make a difference to someone through the arts.”

Lizzie and Katie-Louise are looking for groups to possibly work with and host a 12 week block. Group members should be aged 18 or over  (there is no upper age limit). If you are interested in working with us, please contact Lizzie or Katie-Louise via email or call 01507 613449.
