A SKEGNESS lady, who has fought to regain her health following a serious injury, has praised a scheme that offers low-cost fitness memberships at all or our gyms and leisure centres.
Called ‘medical referrals’, the present system sees those who are referred by professionals, such as GPs, receive top level fitness and health advice and instruction. For 12 weeks, at a subsidised rate, there is access to qualified Lifestyle Consultants, health screening before, during and after the sessions, nutrition sessions, and full gym access with specific group classes if required.
Lynda Everett, 66, has just started on one of the programmes at Skegness Pool & Fitness Suite. Fit and healthy until an accident two years ago that left her with two broken vertebra and a long journey back to health – both mentally and physically.
“I was staying in Norfolk at a friend’s house and fell, which resulted in the injury. The pain some days was chronic,” she recalled.
Heavy pain relief was followed by physiotherapy and visits to a psychologist, and slowly but surely the pain was relieved. But weight-gain and inactivity due to the injury left Lynda feeling very low – her medical professionals recognised this, and she was referred to our centre for the 12-week programme.
“We receive the relevant treatment notes and ensure that feedback is always given, with notes taken about how the client feels the day after exercise and how sessions should change,” explained Lifestyle Consultant Dan Dixon.
For Lynda this is an important step: “This is only my second session, but so far it has been excellent. Everything has been thoroughly explained and I am really looking forward to improving all the time. I would certainly recommend it to others and more people should be aware,” she added.
If you have had an injury or feel your condition may benefit from such a referral then enquire with your GP or medical professional.
