Meet 5 yr old Teddie

/ Health & Fitness

A serious spine infection as a toddler has seen an exciting new swimming future open-up for five-year-old Teddie Locking-Sharpe.

In fact, according to Teddie’s teacher Darren Thompson, the youngster is one of the most ‘naturally talented’ children he has seen – and he just loves being in the pool at Meridian.
Teddie’s mum Beth cannot believe how her son has taken to the water – and now ensures he makes his twice-a-week lessons as often as possible, as he has already reached Level 7 of the Swim England Learn to Swim programme.

“Of course, more than anything swimming is a life skill and I would never want my children to be afraid of the water. That is certainly not the case with Teddie, he loves it,” said Beth.
Teddie’s dad Dean is a keen swimmer himself – but it was not his father’s influence that saw him first take to the water. Beth explained how, when her son was just two, he contracted a spinal infection.

“It was in the October of 2015 that he collapsed and was crying in pain. Teddie was admitted to hospital and saw a specialist, who explained the situation and advised us that swimming would be really good for him,” said Beth.

And that was it, Teddie was hooked. The water has seen his health improve, although regular check-ups are still needed, and his swimming is just getting better. Swim England Level 2 Swimming Teacher Darren, said: “Teddie is a natural swimmer, he’s just like a little fish.”
