The opening of the new 3G pitch at Wainfleet Road, Skegness, was marked by a charity football match between Magna Vitae and Butlins on 24th July.
After a free-flowing opening, Butlins opened the score sheet from a free kick, 5 minutes into the match. Their second came 4 minutes later, when awarded a penalty for an unfortunate handball, given just inside the area.
The first half continued in much the same way, both sides showing enthusiasm, but Magna Vitae struggling to get through the Butlins defence.
Magna Vitae’s best chance of the half came at 44min. A free kick, taken with power, targeting the bottom corner forced the Butlins keeper to make a save, just inside the post.
As the referee blew for half time, the score stood at Butlins 5-0 Magna Vitae.

The second half was much more evenly contested, with Magna Vitae’s attacking prowess having gained in both frequency and strength.
Although the Butlins team sank their 6th goal into the net within the first 2 minutes of the half, this time Magna Vitae had a response, scoring their 1st goal 2 minutes later.
Both sides were quick to respond to the other’s goals, and the power behind each shot increased, soon making the crossbar rattle by the time Magna Vitae were putting their 3rd goal on the score sheet.
With players and supporters gaining enthusiasm, end-to-end play and an abundance of goals, the second half was a spectacle well worth attending.
As the referee signalled the end of the 90 minute match, the final score stood at Butlins 10- 5 Magna Vitae.
Of course this match was about more than football. This was a demonstration, not only of the new 3G playing surface, which stood up to the test very well, but also of how activity can bring people together for a common goal. The spirit shown by the 2 sides was commendable and the final total raised for charity reached over £130.
Thanks to all who attended; playing or supporting, for a great show #liveagreatlife
