Lee Van Kassel is now 67-years-old and is paying the price for a smoking addiction, which started when he was just 11!
However, thanks to Horncastle Pool & Fitness Suite, he is now managing the impact of COPD on both his health and lifestyle. And, last June, he managed to ‘stub it out’ – with the support of the trained Lifestyle Consultants.
The ex-army man now keeps a daily diary of his fitness programmes at Horncastle and his walking – and the whole experience has made a huge difference to him. A fit man in his army days, when Lee was diagnosed he was determined that his condition did not worsen and therefore grabbed the chance of a GP’s exercise referral programme.
“I understand that my COPD means my lungs will never recover, but the condition is easier to control, and I will reap the benefits of improving my lung function and breathing control.
“I will be renewing my membership here and thoroughly recommend the Magna Vitae Exercise Referral Programme to any other COPD sufferers as a great way to help you copy and improve your lifestyle,” he says.
Lee visits the gym at least twice a week with his wife Stephanie and for them both it is also the social side of the venue that appeals to them.
“Everyone is very friendly here and the staff are extremely helpful, welcoming and supportive,” adds Lee.
