Child Swimming Lessons

Child Swimming Lessons – Under 4’s

Our Foundation stage programme, will help your little one to gain early water confidence, the development of motor skills and an enjoyment of being in the water.

The sessions below are delivered by specialist teaching staff.

Child Swimming Lessons- 4+

Whether it’s their first time in the pool or they’re already working up through the stages 1-7 of the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework, you can watch as they turn into experienced swimmers.

Our teachers help develop children’s coordination, agility and balance and core aquatic skills like streamlining, aquatic breathing and buoyancy. Your child will earn badges and certificates as they pass through the different stages.

  • Stage 1 & 2 is to develop water confidence.
  • Stage 3 is to travel through water on the front and back.
  • Stage 4-7 is to develop the 4 strokes (breast stroke, front crawl, back stroke & butterfly), starting with the leg kick, mastering the arm action and finishing with the breathing and timing. Your child will develop skills which will enable them to progress to competitive swimming, synchronised swimming, water polo, diving, and lifesaving.

1:1 and 2:1 sessions

In addition to our group lessons programme, we also offer 1:1 and 2:1 lessons, helping you to gain confidence in the water faster and be comfortable in overcoming any fears.

1:1 and 2:1 sessions are also useful if you would like to improve your skills and focus on a particular area

All of our 1:1 and 2:1 lessons are subject to availability.

Swimming Lesson Portal

Track your child’s WaterWise progress via our Swimming Lesson Portal!

Once registered you can:

  • View the current assessment criteria for the current stage your child is in;
  • Receive notifications of when your child is ready to move up to the next stage and the ability to choose from the available times to move them into depending on availability;
  • Have a record of all assessments and pass dates for each stage and their progression through the Waterwise course.

How to check progress?

If your child is already on lessons you will firstly need to register with us on our Swimming Lesson Portal. To register you will need the green MV card that your child brings to their swimming lessons every week, their date of birth and either the email address or postcode that is related to that account. If you have more than one child on our swimming lessons, you will need their details as well.

Top tips for Parents

There are a number of ways that you can help us to help your child progress in their swimming lessons.

  • Prepare your child for their first swimming lesson by building some initial water confidence.
  • Go swimming as a family in your spare time.
  • Read and understand the pool rules.
  • Check the lesson details to make sure your child goes in the right class.
  • Praise and support your child. You should celebrate landmarks like jumping in, swimming 5 metres and swimming on their back with them.
  • Be patient, not all swimmers develop at the same rate and some will need more support and encouragement. Praise your child even more when they overcome a hurdle!
  • Give constructive feedback to your swimming teachers as this will help them improve their programme.
  • Don’t assume that if your child has swum a distance in their swimming lesson they can swim the same distance everywhere. New pools, changes in water temperature and open water like the seaside may affect your child’s confidence and abilities.
  • Don’t pull your child out of swimming lessons when they start swimming lessons at school. School swimming presents your child with an additional opportunity to learn new skills in a different approach. School swimming is run by the National Curriculum and is different to the Swim England Frameworks.
  • Don’t criticise the swimming teacher in front of your child. It is important that swimmers have respect for their teachers if they are to learn from them.
